Chicks Unravel Time Official Solicitation Blurb [May. 26th, 2012|07:15 am]
Chicks Unravel Time: The sister book to the 2011 Hugo Award-winning Chicks Dig Time Lords… http://madnorwegian.com/

From Mad Norwegian Press, the official chicks Unravel Time blurb (in which I am not mentioned but many better known writers are:D).

In Chicks Unravel Time, Deborah Stanish and L.M. Myles bring together a host of award-winning female writers, media professionals and scientists to examine each season of new and classic Doctor Who from their unique perspectives.

Diana Gabaldon discusses how Jamie McCrimmon inspired her best-selling Outlander series, and Barbara Hambly (Benjamin January Mysteries) examines the delicate balance of rebooting a TV show. Seanan McGuire (Toby Daye series) reveals the power and pain of waiting in Series 5, and Una McCormack (The King’s Dragon) argues that Sylvester McCoy’s final year of Doctor Who is the show’s best season ever.

Other contributors include Juliet McKenna (Einarrin series), Tansy Rayner Roberts (Power and Majesty), Sarah Lotz (The Mall), Martha Wells (The Cloud Roads), Joan Frances Turner (Dust), Rachel Swirsky (“Fields of Gold”), Aliette de Bodard (Obsidian and Blood series) and Amal El-Mohtar (The Honey Month).

Chicks Unravel Time [May. 24th, 2012|09:10 am]
Chicks Unravel Time - featuring an article/essay by me about the Doctor Who TVM -- is now available for pre-order at Amazon. Oh, and there is also an essay by some woman named Diana Gabaldon, most likely discussing handsome young men in kilts.

Feeling stressed? A tad. [May. 8th, 2012|10:45 pm]
I'm going on my writing holiday next week and have all this prep I need to get done for it, plus making sure things run smoothly at the job while I'm gone -- which is kind of annoying.

Re: Job -- I have to wonder if I don't make it hard for people to step up in my absence but then again sometimes I think people are just lazy, sooooo lazy. I come back from my weekend and people have left things for me to take care of because they didn't want the responsibility of (and I'm not exaggerating here) PUTTING SOMETHING AWAY. I know they don't get paid much but fuck, neither do I and honestly, any moron can put something back on a goddamned shelf. (I wish I was kidding). I've also returned from my weekend to a long parade of customers who've been told by my staff that they should come back and I would take care of their problem -- and you know what? Yeah, that is part of my job - except - in those cases where my staff has been trained to take of said problem and choose not to because -LAZY! It's just passive-aggressive and lazy.

So yeah. I wanted to have the fanfiction posted before I left but I'm having so much trouble getting it right. I wish I could just churn it out like all those crazy little fangirls with their new chapters daily. Although most of those new chapters are terrible. But just to be able to write faster that would be so awesome.

I probably shouldn't have written the epilogue to the thing already because now I feel I need to write towards it. And even though I know the elements of plot and outcome I find myself tripped up by specific details that crop up and must be factored in.

It's hard writing mystery, yo. Even harder when you are writing about a very very smart person solving a mystery and you are not very smart yourself. I keep waiting for him to tell me what's going on in an exasperated tone. (I wish he would actually because I wouldn't have to think). Hey I'm kind of doing the same thing here re: story as what I accused my staff of doing with me. Making someone else responsible because I'm too lazy.

Anyway, I have to have this fanfic done and out of the way before I leave. Writing holiday is about projects for which I am to be paid and that have specific deadlines.

Plus side, no internet (unless I go into town) and no phone service either (so if I die no one will know for a couple of weeks). But there is a hot tub and an ocean.

Fanficc-y business [Apr. 30th, 2012|08:14 pm]
I was clearing out my files (deleting and/or moving to stick storage) when I discovered unfinished works of fanfic that are really pretty awesome. One was 9th Doctor and Leela and was very intense, dark and scary. The other is a crossover with Drusilla and 10th Doctor also very scary and intense. And the writing is both lyrical and sharp. (It's nice when I can impress myself with myself:-). I can totally do SF action when I've a mind. And I can write scary Victorian Drusilla also. I don't remember if I ever posted partials here. I kind of want to finish them. They're a little bit awesome.

I certainly am in a writing mood. Of course I have this Sherlock thing to finish, oh and some original stuff with actual deadlines.

I'll be off for a writing retreat at the beach in a couple of weeks and hopefully I'll get to some of the indulgences as well as the requirements.

I finished a story. Go me! [Apr. 28th, 2012|10:20 pm]
I finished a story (not fanfiction) and I like it. I haven't quite liked anything as much as The Rise and Fall of the House of Ricky, but I'm sure this story will become my new favorite child soon enough.

I've taken an action recently that could be brave or ultimately detrimental. I've gone down to four days a week at work so that I can write more. I am making a commitment to writing this summer.

That is all.

Gallifreyan artichoke [Apr. 18th, 2012|10:02 pm]
My new user pic is Mathilde with the artichoke she found and declared it to be from Gallifrey. Which somehow proves the doctor is real. You can tell by the expression on her face.

I'm trying to finish this story I have promised for anthology (another one, yes, I'm terribly popular), which I had hoped would be done this past weekend so that I could work on the final chapter of Gene Expression in Amber. I am such a slow writer. It kind of freaks me out sometimes when I see others churning it out so quickly. And good stuff too. I don't have that ability. I am plodding slow and painful

I just have this narrow window of opportunity to finish these loose ends before I really need to knuckle down on two other big writing projects and I'm a'feard I won't meet my deadlines if I don't get going very very soon. And then at the end of May I also have to turn in my final essays and all associated paperwork in order to get the credits for courses I wrote for (rather than taking the actual class). Another 10 days and it's May.

Vent vent vent.

I'm going to bed.

Oh Mad Men how I've missed you [Apr. 15th, 2012|11:34 pm]
And back with such strength. I am smitten all over again. I was shocked and mortified and laughed so hard. Good job cast and crew and writers! The awkwardness of being a writer of science fiction back in the day made my stomach clench. (Imagine being a girl back then - me - wanting to write it and unable to justify it as worthy of pursuit).

Anyway, full of love and praise and hopefully haven't spoiled anything for anyone.

kicking my ass [Apr. 1st, 2012|10:55 pm]
You know how when you're writing something and the tone keeps getting away from you? Or maybe you don't? But anyway, I'm working on this latest chapter and the tone (which is an emotional shitstorm) keeps getting away from me because I've already written the epilogue.

Using my Tara icon to remind me of my commitment to the writing of a YA novella.

Also I have a Doyle Sherlock Holmes story to outline and it just doesn't seem exciting enough yet. I always want the supernatural with my Victorian Holmes. Where's a time traveling maid when you need one?

Also I need to tidy up another story for someone else. And another one for another someone else.

Look Ma, I writing!
